Vehicle Purchase & Modifications Level 2

As a credentialed Vehicle Purchase & Modifications assessor you can recommend solutions related to:

  • the purchase of an appropriate vehicle

  • driver and passenger safety

  • driving techniques

  • vehicle modifications and equipment.

At level 2 of this credential you may assess people who need any of the following to drive a vehicle safely:

  • pedal modifications

  • modifications to secondary controls

  • a cognitive function or on-road assessment to determine safety to drive.

Completing an optional module (Drive from wheelchair or joystick technology) allows you to assess people who may need any of the following:

  • a ramp hoist or other vehicle adaptation to access the vehicle while seated in a wheelchair

  • a wheelchair docking system

  • a swing away back support

  • custom lateral supports

  • joystick technology.

Who is eligible?

Occupational therapists who hold a level 1 credential in vehicle purchase and modifications can apply for this credential.

What are the accreditation requirements?

The competency framework sets out the pathway to gaining the level 2 credential.

You train under supervision, completing a case study and two assessments. Your supervisor completes an online declaration.

You need access to a wheelchair and seating assessor.

Where to start?

You will need to:

  • find a supervisor (contact us if you need help)

  • apply for provisional accreditation (Vehicle Purchase & Modifications Level 2) in EMS Assessor Online.

When you have met all the requirements you can apply to add the credential to your assessor account.
