After many years of organic development, this year the Enable website team asked for your view on our navigation.
The navigation project arose from feedback from our users about how easily they could find information enable.co.nz. With many years of new features being added, it was time to take a step back and look at how our community really use our website.
The outcome we’re working towards is creating a website where assessors, suppliers, subcontractors, our disabled community and many others can find exactly what they’re looking for from Enable.
Project beginnings
The past few months have been very busy as the Enable website team pulled the functions of our website apart. Digging into the purpose of each piece of information and who uses it.
The project team started off by doing a card sort. This is where we understand how our main website users, assessors, categorise the information on the website. We contacted a number of engaged ACC and Whaikaha Assessors and sent them a request to complete this exercise.
Next steps this August
Once we gathered all the feedback from the card sort, we had a general idea of how our users organise information. By overlaying all this feedback, our team arrived at the most popular and effective navigation framework. And so, we were ready for real-world testing.
Step two is Tree Jacking. This is all about where you would find particular information on the website. An invitation to have a say and provide feedback has been sent out to all the assessors that Enable works with throughout Aotearoa.

What comes after the treejack?
Once we’ve gotten hundreds of users to stress-test our navigation, we’ll make the tweaks to our website navigation and launch an updated menu. You’ll still be able to find everything (with greater ease) and our search bar will work just as strongly. The new navigation system will bring a lot of new and improved abilities to our website and we are excited to go on this journey with your support.
