Photo Competition - capturing life with a disability, through a lens
The team behind the Firstport website is calling for aspiring photographers to help them accurately represent the lives of those living with a disability in New Zealand and there's a $500 Prezzy giftcard up for grabs as first prize.
Firstport is looking for people to share their view of life with a disability in its national ‘Life through a lens’ photography competition.
‘We want Firstport to reflect the audience it is aimed at,’ says Amanda Cockburn, Web & Technology Manager for Firstport. ‘We don’t want to use ‘glossy’ stock imagery on this site; we are passionate about ensuring that the imagery on Firstport shows real people, living real lives and sharing real experiences.’
To help fill the website with imagery that reflects real life and real experiences, the Firstport team are looking for entries in the following categories:
- your daily life
- leisure and travel
- growing up
- sport and hobbies
- assistive technology
- support networks.
It could be that you have a disability yourself, or you share your life with someone who does – whatever your story, the Firstport web team would love to share your experiences through imagery on the website.
One overall winner will feature on the Firstport homepage and win a $500 Prezzy giftcard. There will be six runners up who will each receive a $100 Prezzy giftcard, and everyone who enters stands a chance of having their photos appear on the website.
‘We hope that by running this competition we can collate an amazing library of images which accurately reflect the extraordinary and varied lives lived by people with disabilities in this country,’ adds Amanda. ‘We want people to visit the site and feel a connection with the imagery we use.’
You can find out more and submit your entry by visiting the Firstport Competition web page
Closing date is 5pm Sunday 15th July 2018
